2007 Greenway Plan

Greenway Plan
The Greenway Plan has been prepared by Whitemarsh Township to help guide future conservation and development efforts within the township. The recommendations in the plan were created based on the following set of guiding principles:
  • Understanding where not to develop is the most important first step to creating a sustainable and prosperous community.
  • Placing development in the correct location will lower economic and environmental costs, resulting in overall increased economic return and a healthier environment.
  • The vision proposed in the plan can only be achieved through the combined, collaborative efforts of non-profit organizations, government agencies, private businesses, and local residents.
  • Providing outdoor recreational amenities, an attractive suburban community character, a healthy environment, and a vibrant economy are all important ingredients for obtaining a high quality of life for the people living in the area.
The Whitemarsh Township Greenway Plan Steering Committee, including representative members from the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Open Space Committee, Shade Tree Commission, Parks and Recreation Board and the Environmental Advisory Board began to prepare the Greenway Plan in May 2006. Following a Public Hearing, the Whitemarsh Township Board of Supervisors adopted the plan at their regularly scheduled public meeting on August 16, 2007 by Resolution 2007-31.
