There are numerous temporary signs posted throughout the township advertising many products and events: most of these signs are not permitted and should be removed.
Certain signs are allowed for events sponsored by non-profit organizations which operate within Whitemarsh Township, although there are some restrictions about when and where these may be posted. Some temporary signs and non-permanent signs are allowed for commercial uses in certain locations. Open house real estate signs are only permitted on the day of the open house. Except for open house signs, temporary and non-permanent signs require Zoning Permits.
Please contact the Planning and Zoning Department for more information.
Zoning Ordinance
The Township
Zoning Ordinance only allows temporary signs under very limited circumstances and requires the individual or company posting them, to obtain a Zoning Permit. This is true for almost all signs, with the exception of or sale or for rent / lease signs and signs of contractors working at a property, and only during the time the work is under way. There are size limitations for these and all signs.
Please contact the Planning and Zoning Department to find out the size limits and to discuss obtaining any necessary zoning permits. We urge the immediate removal of all other temporary signs for which permits have not been obtained, or the party responsible for posting them will be issued Notices of Violation which may result in further action by the township if they are not removed.
